Flatness Measuring Tool

Designed to provide flatness measurements on many surfaces, the MESA flatness measuring tool provides the feedback to grinding, honing, polishing, lapping, and super-finishing processes. By doing so, it allows the machines to produce more consistent and reliable parts. The device also provides information about the surfaces to help improve and refine the process, for increased throughput and maximum production output.

The instrument provides repeatable, fast, and safe flatness measurements for a variety of surface roughness and departures. It can be configured as a manually operated system or is available fully automated for production floor operation.

The tool is designed to extend flatness measurement capabilities while maintaining the advantages of interferometric measurements such as fast 3D surface analysis, high spatial measurement resolution, superior measurement repeatability and reproducibility, and a large working distance to the test surface. It uses geometrically desensitized interferometry to measure surfaces at the highest level of repeatability and accuracy. State-of-the-art diffractive optics capture a complete surface in one shot; in other words, in less than 2 seconds, a 3D image of the part's surface is displayed along with numeric results the user chooses to characterize the surface.
